Good morning campers! I have lots news and updates to share with you.
- All of us continue to be very sad about the death of Dr. Jacqueline Fawcett last month. The Society of Rogerian Scholars is requesting donations in Jacqui’s honor to support the Jacqueline Fawcett Nursing Theory Award that she started. Dr. Fawcett provided financial support for the award–the SRS plans to keep it going in her memory. Please click here to make a donation and thank you in advance.
- The CAMPOREE is coming up this Friday, April 10th at 11 am (EDT). The topic is Beyond the Citation: Reading for the Love of It and our guest speaker is Eileen Lake, PhD, RN, FAAN, Editor-in-Chief of Research in Nursing and Health. Join us for a contemplative conversation! Registration is free or for $20 you can receive 2 contact hours of CE credit.
- Also coming up is the Scholarly Dialogue co-sponsored with the Society of Rogerian Scholars. The Nurse as Soul Whisperer is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28th at 2 pm (EDT). The presenters are Dr. Nancey France and Dr. Shirley Gordon. Like the CAMPOREE, registration is free or you can receive 2 contact hours of CE credit for $20. We are proud to partner with SRS to present these thoughtful dialogues–please take advantage of this opportunity and register today.
- While you are hanging out in the Writer’s Camp Store, you might notice we have badges for the INANE Nursing Journals Directory. Are you the Editor or Publisher of a journal that is listed in the directory? If so, here’s your chance to show off and have your accomplishment recognized! The complete badge set is a digital download. There is no charge but donations to support the directory and Writer’s Camp are gratefully accepted.
- Have you heard about the Working Guide to Editorial Systems? Designed for editors, editorial board members, and publishing professionals, the WGES offers practical, experience-based guidance for real-world editorial work. New entries are being added now in advance of the official May 1 launch. Subscribe today at the Founder’s rate and follow along as the WGES takes shape.
- New! The Editorial Leadership Intensive (ELI). Registration is now open for the May 2026 Editorial Leadership Intensive: Journal Systems and Governance. This four-session program is designed for editors seeking a deeper understanding of how journals function as systems. Learn more and register here.
- Are you enjoying our Trail Packs? These multi-faceted learning experiences have been a hit, with people enjoying the articles and video/podcast. Trail Packs post on the first Thursday of the month–the most recent is Nursing Theory Think Tanks: Bridges Between Knowledge and Action. We have Trail Packs scheduled for May and June but beyond that, the calendar is open. If you have a previously published article that you think would be a good topic, reach out to Leslie to get the development process started. It’s great publicity, a way to make people aware of an older article that still is relevant, and a chance to talk about your work. Take advantage of this opportunity!
- Likewise, the CAMPOREE schedule is open for the coming months. If you have something you would like to present or chat about, let us know! CAMPOREES are fun and informal and a great way to share your knowledge. We want to hear from you!
Writer’s Camp is celebrating its one-year anniversary throughout the month of April—and what a year it has been! Since launch, 143 posts have been published on the site, and the Writer’s Camp Journal has been established with four issues and 76 articles. The Journal has been accepted for indexing in CINAHL, and we have begun the process of applying for membership in COPE and submitted the WCJ for consideration for indexing in Scopus. CAMPOREES began last June, with nine sessions held to date; all have been recorded and archived in the CAMPOREE Theater, and contact hours for educational programming are now available. Most recently, we launched the Working Guide to Editorial Systems, with new entries being added in advance of the May 1st official launch. As we look ahead, new initiatives are underway, including the series Shh! Editor Confidential, and we are exploring the possibility of publishing original research reports—stay tuned as the celebration continues.
Now, you tell me–what’s your favorite thing about Writer’s Camp? I have a lot of fun being the Camp Director and working with my talented group of Counselors. But I want to know–what resonates with you? Why do you come to Writer’s Camp–and how often? What am I doing right and what could use improvement? One year is a big milestone–please share your thoughts in the comments. I look forward to hearing from you!

Until next time, here is your camp director hard at work, with future camper Madeline supervising the action.
See you round the campfire!
–Leslie

Dear Dr. Nicoll,

Congrats on 1 year, and many more to come! I am honored to have a very small part in this.
Most importantly, Madeline is adorable.
