Scholarly writing, peer review, and publishing for nursing students at every level.
Writer’s Camp offers free resources, a peer review microcredential, and mentored projects for bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral (e.g., BSN, MSN, DNP, DNE, PhD, EdD) students. Whether you teach nursing students or you are one, start here: watch two short lessons, then find your section below.
Why a camp?
Because learning to write, review, and publish is easier with a guide. Here, our editors are counselors, our resources are Trail Packs and Camporees, and you never walk the trail alone.
Step 1: Watch Two Short Lessons
1 Introduction to Writer’s Camp About 8 minutes
What Writer’s Camp is, what you’ll find here, and what terms like Camporee, Trail Pack, and QPR mean.
2 Getting Students Involved About 6 minutes
The three ways to take part, examples for each program level, and what happens after you reach out.
Step 2: Choose Your Section
For Faculty
Bring scholarly writing into your courses.
Choose an activity and a learning product that fit your course. There are three ways to take part:
- Assign (free, ready now): add Wordcraft lessons or articles on writing, ethics, and journal selection to any course.
- Credential (self-paced, from $50): students earn the Qualified Peer Reviewer (QPR) microcredential through a review practicum with individualized feedback.
- Collaborate (by arrangement): students co-create a Camporee, Trail Pack, Feature, or original research with Writer’s Camp mentors.
For ideas by program level and suggested evidence of learning, download the faculty guide.
How does this fit my course? Embed a short learning sequence in an existing course, build a writing or dissemination elective, or use Writer’s Camp work in portfolios and doctoral seminars.
Who decides credit? You do. Faculty determine credit, assessment, and any approved practice or project hours.
Can I request support for a whole group? Yes. Complete the form once for your course and tell us about how many students are involved.
What does it cost? Most resources are free. QPR is $50, or $75 with 15 nursing continuing education contact hours. Research articles in The Writer’s Camp Journal carry a $175 article processing charge. Some Camporees and the Editorial Leadership Intensive have fees.
Next Steps:
For Students
Build your skills as a writer, reviewer, and teacher.
You can start on your own today or bring Writer’s Camp into your coursework. Three ways in:
- Learn on your own (free): use the Wordcraft lessons and articles listed under Free Resources below, and apply them to your next paper.
- Earn a credential (self-paced, from $50): complete the Qualified Peer Reviewer (QPR) microcredential and get individualized feedback on a manuscript review.
- Work on a mentored project (by arrangement): with support from your instructor or advisor, help create a Camporee, Trail Pack, Feature, or original research with a Writer’s Camp mentor.
Do I need my instructor’s permission? Not for free resources or the QPR microcredential. Mentored projects work best with a faculty member or advisor involved. If you haven’t talked with one yet, complete the form and choose “Not yet,” and we’ll help you think through how to approach them.
Can I get course credit? Ask your instructor. Faculty decide credit, assessment, and any practice or project hours.
Will my work be published? Mentorship helps you prepare strong work, but editorial acceptance is a separate decision made through the journal’s usual review process.
What does it cost? Free resources cost nothing. QPR is $50, or $75 with 15 nursing continuing education contact hours. Research articles carry a $175 article processing charge.
Who would mentor me? A member of the Writer’s Camp counselor team, matched by interest and availability.
