I am delighted to announce the winners of the Writer’s Camp Summer of Peer Review contest!
This year, we received exactly five entries—which means we had exactly five winners. Congratulations to all of our participants, who will each receive a Writer’s Camp magnet.

The prompt was… “The unofficial motto of peer review is…”
Faith Tissot
“Behind every great manuscript is a peer reviewer who says, ‘Clarify!'”
Holly Kapusinski
“To be or not to be, that is the question precisely.”
Stephanie Abbu
“Where your best work meets everyone else’s opinions.”
Jamie Bourgeois
“A nurse’s other unpaid job.”
Ella Cullen
“Critique other writers as you would like to be critiqued!”
Taken together, these entries capture much of what peer review is all about:
- Faith: Clarify.
- Holly: Precision matters.
- Stephanie: Everybody has an opinion.
- Jamie: Nobody gets paid.
- Ella: Be kind.
In just a few words, our contestants managed to describe the challenges, frustrations, humor, and humanity of peer review. That’s no small accomplishment!
Thank you to everyone who participated and helped kick off the Summer of Peer Review. I look forward to learning, reading, reviewing, and growing together throughout the summer.
