I am excited to tell you about:
- A new resource on the site: Peer Reviewer Needs;
- Some reorganization on the main menu; and
- An exciting series debuting in the summer!
First things first: Peer Reviewer Needs is a gallery view of nursing journals, showing their current needs for peer reviewers, expectations, and reviewer requirements. This gallery was created from a survey of journal editors which remains open. The view will be updated and expanded in real-time as new journals come on line. If you are thinking about being a peer reviewer, here’s a good way to identify journals in your area of expertise. Contact information for each journal is included. Editors: there is a link to the survey on the page so if your journal is not currently listed–and you want it to be–complete the survey and it will be added. I hope everyone finds this to be a useful resource.
Adding the Peer Reviewer Needs gallery necessitated some reorganization on the main menu.

You will notice that the main heading is now Journal Resources. Under that is:
- Nursing Journals Directory: our carefully curated list of 280 primarily nursing journals.
- About the Directory: how the Nursing Journals Directory is maintained and the form to submit a new journal or updates to existing journals.
- Peer Reviewer Needs gallery: see above.
Nothing has disappeared, it has just moved around a little bit.
Putting together the Peer Reviewer Needs survey and gallery made me realize there is a tremendous need for high quality peer reviewers who can provide thoughtful, constructive, and methodologically sound feedback to authors and editors. There is also a clear need for meaningful education for peer reviewers. While some resources exist, many are not specific to nursing, are outdated, or simply not very engaging. So I decided to do something about this and rallied the Writer’s Camp Counselors to create the Peer Review Trail Series, a series of 14 articles covering all aspects of peer review, from trailhead to campfire. 🔥

The articles will start posting on June 18th and run through September 17th. As I looked at the calendar, two things struck me: first, the series covers the entire summer and second, our last article will post during Peer Review Week, scheduled for September 14-18, 2026. So, I decided to call our series, The Summer of Peer Review and make it an ongoing celebration! If you have a minute, head to the Peer Review Week website and vote in their poll to determine the theme of this year’s event.
My goal is simple: to offer the best, most well-written, most engaging, and most current information on peer review available today.
Editors: send your peer reviewers to Writer’s Camp to take part in the Summer of Peer Review.
Aspiring—and active—peer reviewers: subscribe to Writer’s Camp so you don’t miss a single Trail Stop. This summer, we’ll be gathering at Writer’s Camp to celebrate all aspects of peer review. Bring your reading glasses, your curiosity, and your editorial pencil. See you at the camp editing desk!
