CAMPOREE: Beyond the Citation

Beyond the Citation: Reading for the Love of It

  • We read to publish.
  • We read to keep up.
  • We read to cite and synthesize and survive.

But we also read for something else.

In this conversation-style CAMPOREE, Leslie H. Nicoll, PhD, MBA, RN, FAAN, Writer’s Camp Director and Eileen Lake, PhD, RN, FAAN, Editor-in-Chief of Research in Nursing & Health, will reflect on their reading lives—how they began, how they’ve changed, and how reading for pleasure sustains writing, thinking, and professional life.

Together, they’ll explore:

  • How reading habits evolve across seasons of life and career
  • What draws us to certain books (strong female protagonists? wide wanderings?)
  • Audio vs. Kindle vs. paper—does the format change the experience?
  • Why reading beyond our discipline can deepen our scholarly voice

This will not be a formal presentation per se, but a guided, reflective conversation—an invitation to reconnect with reading as nourishment, not obligation.

Especially meaningful for students and early-career scholars, but open to anyone who wants to remember why they fell in love with books in the first place.

  • Friday, April 10th, 11 am EDT
