Gather round the flagpole, Campers, for lots of news and announcements!
Thought for the day: Have you ever had a day where you have a long “to-do” list, you are very busy, but you don’t seem to be crossing anything off the list? I’m having one of those days. Fortunately, writing a Bugle post is on my list and I am getting that done now!
Kudos to Writer’s Camp! I received a postcard that shared how helpful Writer’s Camp is “for junior faculty in my program.” Hooray! I love getting news like that. Everyone, please share Writer’s Camp info with your friends and colleagues and encourage them to subscribe. Subscribing is free and you receive email updates anytime something new is posted on the site. Thanks for the support!
Editor Opportunity: If you ever thought you might like to be a journal editor, here is a fantastic opportunity. The Journal of Nursing Administration (JONA) is searching for a new Editor-in-Chief as the present EIC, Dr. Karen Hill, is retiring after nearly 15 years in the role. JONA is “the authoritative source for information on the development and advancements in patient care leadership. The journal’s practical, innovative, and solution-oriented articles equip healthcare leaders with the tools and data necessary to excel in executive practice within evolving healthcare systems.” Click here to access the PDF with a complete description of the position and application requirements. Applications are due by July 14, 2025 at 5 pm EDT. If you have a general question about being an editor of a journal, ask it here in the comments. If you have a specific question about JONA, direct it to the chair of the search committee, Beth Guthy–her email is listed in the PDF.
Our CAMPOREE is coming up! Our first Writer’s CAMPOREE, “Pulling Back the Curtain: What Happens in the Editorial Office After You Hit SUBMIT” is coming up this Friday, June 13th at 10 am EDT. Registration is still open if you want to attend. The session is free but tips to support our work here at Writer’s Camp are gratefully accepted. I will be sending out Zoom meeting information to registered campers on Thursday, June 12th at 10 am (24 hours in advance).
My Schedule and Manuscript Success: I hope everyone is enjoying the Manuscript Success series! I am having fun writing the articles but they do take time. I am going on vacation (to beautiful Deer Isle, Maine) from June 20th through July 5th, so I have decided to take a 2 week pause in the Manuscript Success series. I will post the third installment of Journal Due Diligence next Monday, June 16th, then there will be a hiatus until July 7th when I return and dive into Template Articles and Manuscript Math Outlines. Let me know if you have any questions and stay tuned for updates. Oh and while I am away–well, I won’t be gone completely! I’ll have my computer and will be checking in regularly. My Senior Counselors, Peggy Chinn and Jayne Jennings Dunlap will also be overseeing camp operations and making sure everything runs smoothly while I take a little bit of time to relax and refresh.
Coming Up: The Writer’s Camp Journal is a quarterly publication and Volume 1, Issue 1 will be wrapping up on June 30 (Apr-June issue). We have some great articles lined up to finish the quarter:
- June 12: Writing an Op-Ed for Change by Counselor Sarah Martin
- June 16: Journal Due Diligence Part III by Camp Director Leslie Nicoll
- June 19: Rejection, Resilience, and the Risk of Saying Yes by Guest Counselor Lisa Kelly
- June 26: Blog Post, Journal Article or Both? by Senior Counselor Peggy L. Chinn
ICN in Helsinki, Finland: The International Council of Nurses is meeting this week in Helsinki, Finland. Wyona Freysteinson, one of our Counselors, is in attendance. I have never been to an ICN Congress so I am curious about the event. Do we have any other Campers in Helsinki right now? Leave a comment if you are there!
That’s all for now. Thanks for reading and please spread the word about Writer’s Camp!

I too am in Helsinki for the ICN congress. Enjoying the happiest place on earth.
