Writer’s Camp Bugle #12

A Quick Note from Camp

Happy New Year, Campers!

Here in Maine there are just a few hours left in 2025. Do you stay up to watch the festivities from Times Square, or are you like me–crawling into bed at 10 pm for a good night’s sleep? Either way, I hope your new year gets off to a a good start!

I have a couple of pieces of camp news to share as we head into January.

First, I’m delighted to officially welcome Patricia A. Normandin, DNP, RN, CEN, CPN, CPEN, FAEN as our new Senior Counselor/Associate Editor at Writer’s Camp. Pat joins Jenny Chicca and Peggy Chinn on our leadership team. Many of you may already know Pat through her work as an associate editor and section editor for the Journal of Emergency Nursing. She is also a clinician, educator, and mentor to others. She brings editorial experience, a generous mentoring spirit, and a sharp eye for helping manuscripts become their best possible versions. I’m thrilled to have her stepping into this expanded leadership role here at Writer’s Camp.

Second, registration is now open for the January Camporee:
Go for the Gold: Being an Outstanding Peer Reviewer
📅 Friday, January 23 | ⏰ 1:00 pm (ET)

I’ll be joined by Suzan Kardong-Edgren, Editor Emerita of Clinical Simulation in Nursing, and Heather Carter-Templeton, Editor-in-Chief of CIN: Computers, Informatics, Nursing. Together, we’ll focus on what high-quality, ethical, and constructive peer review really looks like—from the editor’s chair. Contact hours will be available for this session ($20) or you can register for free. More details and registration information are available at the Camp Store, and I hope you’ll join us.

Just a reminder, videos of past CAMPOREEs are available in the CAMPOREE Theater. You can watch all the sessions presented in 2025. If you want, you can obtain contact hours, too–just complete the evaluation and pay the fee.

Our first Trail Pack debuts tomorrow and I am excited! As an added bonus–this Trail Pack features a video or a podcast–we try to appeal to all types of learners here at Writer’s Camp. Plus, if you read the two articles and watch/listen to the video or podcast, you can receive 2 contact hours, just like with the CAMPOREEs. The information will be on the Trail Pack page and CE certificates will be delivered immediately, if you take advantage of this opportunity.

With the publication of yesterday’s Wordcraft at Camp, Volume 1 of The Writer’s Camp Journal is officially closed. Volume 2 will begin tomorrow with the Trail Pack. In just 9 months, we have published 56 articles! They are all archived on the Writer’s Camp Journal page. I am very proud of what we have accomplished in a short period of time, and I thank everyone for their help and support. Remember–anyone can write for The Writer’s Camp Journal. Make a New Year’s Resolution to contribute to our developing publication. I would love to hear from you.

As always, thank you for being part of Writer’s Camp. There’s more good stuff coming soon and I am happy to have you along for the journey.

Warmly,
Leslie
Camp Director and Editor-in-Chief, The Writer’s Camp Journal
