Writer’s Camp Bugle #10

Things are perking here at Writer’s Camp! To newcomers, welcome and join the fun!

CAMPOREE NPD CREDIT: Thanks to Counselor Annie Rohan, our Writer’s CAMPOREES have been approved for Nursing Professional Development (NPD) credit by the New Jersey State Nurses Association. Each session will be worth 2 contact hours. Beginning in October, there will be a modest charge to receive the credit, although anyone can attend the CAMPOREE for free. However, for our September CAMPOREE it is possible to receive 2 contact hours by watching the video, completing the evaluation, and including your name and email address–no charge! This offer is good until September 30.

September CAMPOREE: Roger Watson presented a great session for our September 12th CAMPOREE–the topic was AI. If you were not able to attend, no worries–the recording of the session is available on the CAMPOREE page. Please enjoy the video. If you complete the evaluation form with your name and email, you will receive 2 contact hours of NPD credit.

October CAMPOREE: This is a quick announcement–more details will be posted separately. Our next CAMPOREE is scheduled for Friday, October 10th at 8:30 – 9:30 am. The speaker will be Vicente Berrizbeitia from Paperpile. He will be covering reference manager software in general, and Paperpile in particular, with a demonstration. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion. Add this session to your calendar. Details on registration will be forthcoming.

REFERENCE MANAGER OPTIMIZATION: Speaking of reference managers, I am pleased to announce that articles posted at Writer’s Camp have been optimized for RMS programs. Hooray! What this means is that if you are reading an article here at Writer’s Camp and you want to save it to your RMS library, all you need to do is click the appropriate add-on or extension. The article metadata will be captured and added to your library. Articles at the site work with Paperpile, Zotero, and Endnote. I am having problems with Mendeley–if I get that fixed, I will let you know. I have not tested PERRLA or other programs–if you use something not mentioned here, let me know what it is and I can do a test (or you can do a test and report back!).

CINAHL Indexing: The Writer’s Camp Journal has been selected for indexing in CINAHL. This is exciting news for the publication. CINAHL adds content quarterly, so sometime between now and the end of the year, the journal will appear in CINAHL. As I learn more I will be sure to let everyone know. Volume 1, Issue 3 of the journal will start posting on October 1st; Issue 2 wraps up on September 30th.

That’s all for now! Keep camping and make sure to tie your shoelaces!

Leslie, Writer’s Camp Director
