Become a writer’s camp author.
A key feature of Writer’s Camp will be our regular articles on writing, editing, and publishing. I am reaching out to colleagues to recruit a staff of Camp Counselors–folks who agree to contribute articles on a regular basis and commit to assisting with developing Writer’s Camp to be an exciting and vibrant community. Do you want to be part of the action?
If your answer to that question is “Yes,” you have a choice: be a CIT (counselor-in-training, ie, author for one or more articles) or join our staff as a Camp Counselor. CITs have a little less responsibility and a little more supervision but are still a valuable part of the Writer’s Camp team.
Starting as a CIT is easy: pick a topic, write an article, and send it to me, the Camp Director, Leslie Nicoll at leslie@writers-camp.org. Detailed guidelines for articles will be posted shortly, but to get going, keep this in mind:
- Articles must be on some aspect of writing, editing, or publishing and written primarily for an audience of nursologists.
- The “sweet spot” for an article is 1000 – 2000 words. Less than 1000 is usually too short to get your message across while more than 2000 gets wordy. If your idea is that complex, consider two articles.
- Write in a friendly, easy-to-read, accessible voice. First person is fine, but don’t get carried away with the “I” word.
- References are not required, but please don’t plagiarize others–use citations when necessary to document your sources.
If you want to be a Camp Counselor, that is, on our regular staff of authors, please send a message to Leslie@writers-camp.org. Please describe your interest and why you are a good candidate to be on our camp staff. Provide a writing sample and short CV. Responsibilities for counselors include:
- Writing regular articles for Writer’s Camp. Plan on 2-3 per year at a minimum.
- Assisting with the overall growth and development of this site and its associated content.
- Providing peer review of contributed articles, when necessary and upon request.
I look forward to hearing from many of you!
