Editorial Review Process
All submissions are reviewed by the Camp Director (Editor-in-Chief) of The Writer’s Camp Journal. When appropriate, additional review is provided by Associate Editors (Senior Counselors) and Editorial Board Members (Counselors). External reviewers will be invited if circumstances warrant it.
All final editorial decisions are made by the Editor-in-Chief. Feedback from Associate Editors and Editorial Board Members is carefully considered when making publication decisions.
Editorial decisions include:
- Accept
- Revise and Resubmit
- Reject
- Desk Reject (review by Editor-in-Chief only)
The WCJ uses a curated editorial review process to provide developmental, constructive guidance while upholding scholarly quality. Curated peer review is an editor-led process in which reviewers are intentionally selected for their expertise and fit with the manuscript, ensuring high-quality, relevant, and constructive feedback.
The depth and form of review may vary depending on the article type, author experience, and the editorial purpose of the piece. In all cases, the goal is mentoring and support, as well as peer review, so that authors learn from the experience..
Editing and Author Approval
Articles are edited by the Editor-in-Chief and members of the Writer’s Camp Leadership Team. All content is reviewed for clarity, accuracy, and alignment with the voice and style of The Writer’s Camp Journal.
Authors have the opportunity to review and approve the final formatted version prior to publication.

ArtificiaI Intelligence (AI) Use Statement
The Writer’s Camp Journal supports thoughtful and transparent use of generative AI tools to assist with brainstorming, organization, and clarity. Authors are responsible for the originality, accuracy, and integrity of all submitted work, and AI may not generate substantive intellectual content, fabricate sources, or replace an author’s own contribution. Any meaningful use of AI must be briefly disclosed in the manuscript. Undisclosed AI-generated text, fabricated references, or misuse of AI tools may result in requests for revision, rejection, or correction in accordance with COPE guidelines.
If AI is used in any meaningful way, a brief disclosure should be included at the end of the manuscript, such as:
AI assistance: The author used ChatGPT to help with brainstorming and line editing. All ideas and final text are the author’s own.
or
AI disclosure: Generative AI was used to refine organization and improve clarity. No AI-generated text was used without substantial revision.
If no AI tools were used, no statement is necessary.
AI Assistance Disclosure
The Editor-in-Chief used generative AI tools (ChatGPT) to assist with drafting and refining portions of the Journal’s public-facing policies and internal editorial documents. AI assistance was limited to brainstorming, organizing content, and improving clarity. All ideas, final wording, editorial decisions, and policy determinations were made by the Editor-in-Chief, who assumes full responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and meaning of the final documents. The AI system did not generate or alter data, make policy decisions, or contribute original intellectual or ethical positions. All documents were subsequently reviewed and endorsed by the Senior Leadership Team and the Editorial Board.
