- The Suzanne Smith INANE Editor Fellowship is named in honor of Suzanne Smith, INANE champion and beloved mentor.
- Suzanne passed away unexpectedly in 2013.
- Donations in her honor started the fund that supported the Mentoring Editors Awards
- Inaugural year of new program: Structure, role expectations, objectives
- Purpose: Provide mentorship for selected INANE members in an editor role.

The Process:
Year 1:
- Fellows and mentors apply by Jan. 31.
- Matches announced March 1.
- Fellows and mentors meet in person or virtually to develop goals.
- Meet virtually as a group in early Summer.
- Connect at INANE annual meeting.
- Fellows and mentors work together on goals over the next year.
Year 2:
- Fellows and mentors co-present their projects and/or reflections at INANE annual meeting.
Year 1 Fellows and Mentors:
- Pernilla Garmy and Sarah Bekaert, new co-EICs, Journal of Research in Nursing. Mentor: Marilyn Oermann
- Mei Fu, new EIC, Journal of Transcultural Nursing. Mentor: Leslie Nicoll
- Lindell Joseph, new EIC, Nurse Leader. Mentor: Julia Snethen
- David Campbell-O’Dell, founding EIC, The Journal of the Academy of Doctoral Prepared Nurses. Mentor: Marty Lewis-Hunstiger
Responsibilities:
Program Committee:
- Currently Julee Waldrop, Jackie Owens, Kathleen Gould, and Marty Lewis-Hunstiger
- Manages applications, selects and matches Fellows and mentors
- Facilitates communication including first group meeting
- Conducts program evaluation
- Updates structure and function as indicated by results of evaluation
INANE Members:
- Recognize and support current Suzanne Smith INANE Editor Fellows.
- Identify potential Fellows and mentors, and encourage them to apply.
- Support the Suzanne Smith Development Fund.
