Live Reporting from INANE!

Hello Campers!

I am excited to announce that we will have live reporting from the INANE conference coming up in just a few weeks. Our reporter is Melissa Ann DuBois, a doctoral student at the Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing, UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester, Massachusetts. Stay tuned–Melissa will be introducing herself in a post coming up sometime in the near future.

The International Academy of Nursing Editors (INANE) will be holding its 43rd Annual Meeting in Portland, Maine is less than 3 weeks. Registration will be open on Sunday, August 3rd and the conference itself will begin on Monday morning, August 4th with an Editors and Publishers Panel at 10:30 am. From there, the conference will be off and running with 3 full days of exciting sessions, networking, meals, special events, and fun!

In the world of nursing editors, the INANE conference is a BIG DEAL. INANE as an organization is very loose–we do not have a structure for dues or membership, no executive director, no headquarters, and no bylaws. Even so, the organization has existed since 1982 and has held some sort of an Annual Meeting, even in the midst of the recent pandemic. The organization provides education and support to editors of scholarly nursing journals from all over the world. In addition to the annual meeting, the group has a mailing list and other educational programs. On occasion, members spearhead initiatives, such as editorial collective on predatory publishing back in 2014.

Global challenges are facing all of us and for some editors, they are unable to travel to INANE this year. That is why I am excited to have Melissa as our INANE reporter. She will be posting live from the conference–we hope several times each day–with reports on the sessions that she is attending. Her reports will be cross-posted here at Writer’s Camp as well as on the Nursing Editors INANE website, the INANE Conference website, and (I hope), Nursology.net.

What does the INANE conference have to do with Writer’s Camp, specifically our mission and purpose? Well, if you look at the top of the page, Writer’s Camp is a resource for writing, editing, and publishing excellence. INANE is about all of those things–and more. The men and women who come together are editors, publishers, librarians, authors, editorial board members, and peer reviewers–to name just a few. Presentations provide cutting edge information and research that is useful to a wide audience. We have a number of campers who will be attending INANE and I am thrilled that they will be there. Our live reporting provides a way for those who can’t be in attendance to keep abreast of the sessions and information that will be presented. INANE is an important partner with Writer’s Camp, and I appreciate our collaboration.

So, stay tuned and visit Writer’s Camp regularly, particularly after August 3rd. I think things will be hopping and I am happy that I can bring this valuable resource to everyone.

PS–Let me suggest that you subscribe to Writer’s Camp (if you have not already done so) to receive email notices every time Melissa posts a new report.

Thanks,

Leslie, Writer’s Camp Director
